Debut!

A milestone - I completed my first garment (okay, accessory really) out of my own handspun. It's brown and white fiber, spun rather unevenly. I forgive myself for that since it was one of my initial attempts at spinning. The benefit was that it had a rustic tweedy look when I knit it up. I didn't have much of it so I decided to make a simple hat. Being very textured yarn it looked best in stockinette stitch. Here is the picture - the hat modeled on its new owner, my very own brother Ed. He was very gracious about accepting it as a gift (thanks, bro!). He recognized it as a toque. Below is the picture of the yarn I knit it from.

I love how the hat turned out! Yes, I remember you spinning that fiber and wondering what you were going to do with it! It looks great on Ed and I am sure it will be warm because if I remember, it was more a worsted weight! Good job! Even better because it is from your own spinning stash!!

Hi Esther - It's me, Sheryl from Nature's Yarn! I wanted to tell you that those first two Mondays in December are not going to work for a spinning class - I found out I have extra choir rehersal on those two nights. So - any Monday in November will work - though I'm not sure that was going to work for you. If you go ahead and have it in December, maybe I can talk you into doing it again after the first of the year. I am so anxious! sherylkenoyer@cox.net

Hey, that's really cool! Toques are very in. And he'll have warm ears this winter, which is going to be a cold one!

The hat has worked better and feels nicer then the artificial stuff I usually wear. I would like to say a heartfelt "Thank you!" to my generous sister. She has started to try to really understand the way that the fibers are twisted to form the different type of yarn. I'm very impressed with her expertise, and if this is her first effort, then you'll be very lucky to have a later version. I also have to say I think the color works great for my skin tone, and general style. Thank you very much, Kid!
